Day 2, 30 Days of Sober Sunrises

Jun 30, 2024

 Day 2, Sunday June 30th, 5:51 am

Stronger breeze, clear skies, mild cloud coverage on the horizon, waning moon.

Relaxed, satisfied, cool breeze washing over me in waves like the ocean waves coming in and going out.

Pink, back lights the clouds, electric neon.

Pelicans fishing.

I am proud of myself.

My mind is clear, un-tethered to things to do, problems to solve, it is at peace out here, observing and watching for the sun.

Here she comes.

Wait.. at one second you don't think you will see it, then she pops up through the clouds, saying, don't you doubt the power and magic of me!

Here I am.

But today, she is playing with me, she is making me wait for it, showing us the beauty BEOFRE the big moment.

The process of becoming the sunrise, the journey of coming up, and out behind the clouds.

It's what happens BEFORE the sunrise that is most magical.

It is EXTRAORDINARY!

It's the feelings, anticipation, scurry of thoughts, planning, the work that we do before the big event, that is the most interesting.

The sun will always come up.

Events will happen.

Challenges will arise.

How we approach each one is living, is interesting, it's the process and the revelations of who we are in these moments BEFORE that can be so fascination to observe.

Good morning, beautiful day!

6:17 am, full exposure, full brightness, spectacular show this morning!

Feelings: [happy, entertained, joyful + curious]

About the 30 days of Sober Sunrise Project:

These entries are dedicated to my 6th year of living an alcohol-free life. I have discovered that I love sunrises in my new life. So, I decided to do a writing project of documenting 30-days of sober sunrises over the Atlantic ocean. I rented a house within walking distance to Carolina Beach to make this happen. My family and a few friends will be rotating in and out during this time.

I have no agenda or goal about the outcome. I am curious and fascinated about what might happen.

But most importantly, I just happy that I gave myself the chance for this to even be possible. I am thankful for every person who has helped me get here, past and present, good and bad. They all played a role and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't the experiences in my life (even all the excessive drinking) before this very moment. Let's see what happens!
